New Happiness!

As some of my internet friends already know, I've recently obtained two new kitties. And, my dear readers (if I have any) will have to suffer through the long story of how I got them. I'm just that nice.

So, as you all know, my little kitten recently passed away, and I've really wanted another one for a while. I just loved having a little bundle of energy like that in my house. So, Mom and I went to an event at PetCo where about a gazillion cats from Last Hope were all up for adoption. We went, and there were so many cats, it was hard to know where to start looking. One immediately caught our eye, however. His name is Ducky, and he's just adorable. He's got such a personality. When we came in, he was asleep in his litterbox. His foster mom took out an empty one and put in a blanket, but he wanted the one with the litter. His cagemate snapped up the blanket litter box. His cagemate is a beautiful female siamese named Sushi. I called her Ayesha in my head. If you get that, good for you. If not, read Susan Kay's "Phantom". Great book. OK, done with the promo.

A new shipment of kittens showed up in the cage next to Ducky and Sushi/Ayesha, all about 8 weeks. There was a pretty little brown girl with flecks of orange, an all-black male, a brown tabby male, and a sort of standard ginger cat - orange everywhere but tummy and paws. Other cats came, but we hovered by these two cages.

We loved ol' Ducky from the start, and I'll tell you right now that we ended up with him. He's so adorable. He's my lil' snugglebunny. That is now a word. Deal with it, spellcheck. Sushi/Ayesha was just lovely, and seems like she's sweet as can be, but she just didn't really "click" with us. She just didn't really seem all that playful, and that's what we were looking for - someone to play with our old cat, Chevy.

We then turned our attention to the 8-week-old kittens in the next cage. Now, at this point, I should point out that we only came looking for one cat, not two. Yeah. I kind of scored. My mom loved the little spicy one, but she set her down, and someone snapped her up. That was kind of sad, but we ended up with her sister. The little orange kitten is now a member of the family. I really wanted her, because ever since I was very young, I'd always wanted a little orange kitten, and this one was just so sweet I had to have her. Mom, however, had her heart set on Ducky. I jokingly pointed out that there was an obvious solution - get both - and, unexpectedly, she said "OK!"

We took 'em home, and they are now officially part of our lives. We just couldn't live without them, now. We named the little orange kitten "Clementine", because she's little, orange and sweet. We sometimes call her "Cutie", which is just kind of hysterical, considering her official name. She has a habit of pouncing on her own tail, and going all "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" when she jumps. To clarify, she puts her front paws straight up. She and Ducky love to chase and wrestle. Chevy, our old neurotic guy, is still adjusting to them, but they played earlier today, so I think they'll be okay.

This concludes my long, boring odyssey. But, hey - blogs are made for stuff like this, right?

See you all later!
